About us

The Model Arts and Niland Gallery, Sligo, is one of the leading contemporary arts centres in Ireland. Built in 1862 as a Model School, the present building was completely refurbished, extended by McCullough Mulvin Architects and reopened to wide acclaim in 2000. The award winning building is home to the impressive Niland Art Collection, featuring works by John and Jack B. Yeats, Estella Solomons, Paul Henry and Louis Le Broquy among others.

The acclaimed contemporary exhibition programme features several major exhibitions annually drawn from noted national and international contemporary artists. Previous artists have included Andy Warhol, Patrick Hall, Sean McSweeny, Mark Orange, Runa Islam, John Shinnors, Camille Souter, William Kentridge, Jaki Irvine and Barrie Cooke among others.
The model::niland has a vibrant performance programme which includes an eclectic mix of contemporary and classical music. The music programme, develops events that respond to the Model programme, produces The Sligo New Music Festival and supports The Sligo Festival of Baroque Music.

Integral to all aspects of the programme is an extensive offering of educational opportunities for children and adults, including the ground breaking young model programme. The model::niland has entered its next phase of development and is currently closed until Autumn 2009 to facilitate an exciting redevelopment, details of which can be found on our redevelopment site. While the Model building is closed the team are working on a number of innovative offsite projects which will run throughout the closure.

Find us

We have taken over a temporary exhbition space in the centre of Sligo until we reopen on The Mall. Acting as The Model Satellite this new space will predominantely be used to house our exhibition programme.

Access

Castle House is fully accesible with lift access to all floors. there is very limited metered parking on Castle Street and the nearest public car park is Abbey Street (marked on map above).

Admission to all exhibitions is free of charge.
