Medium Religion
Sun 24th May – Sun 16th Aug 2009

Opening Sat 23rd May, 5 – 9pm
This Exhibition takes place at the new Model Satellite space in
Castle House, 9 Castle Street, Sligo. See the map below for its location

As a multi-layered project, Medium Religion tackles contemporary representations of religion and religiosity. Taking an unusual focus on how religious thought is disseminated, Medium Religion provides comprehensive insight into the reproduction and significance of contemporary and ancient religions, and how they currently manifest themselves, above all in geo-political hotspots such as in the Middle East, as well as in Asia, Russia, the USA and South America. Many of the art works or projects are on display in Europe for the first time and have either been edited by experts or especially produced for the exhibition.

This project is produced by ZKM (Center for Contemporary Art and New Media) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and will include an exhibition of international artists, a publication including scholarly contributions, and a public forum on the subject of contemporary art and religion produced in collaboration with the Goethe Institut.

We are especially fortunate to confirm a public talk in Sligo by internationally renowned philosopher Boris Groys one of the curators of the project. This will take place the day of the exhibition’s opening; 23 May 2009.
