Reverse Pedagogy opens on Culture Night at The
Model Satellite. A diverse group of artists are gathered here
together to produce artwork, to educate one another, and to collaborate
generally in opposition to traditional art educational models.
The project, much of it in the form of an artist residency, involves
arts practitioners from different backgrounds, working in different
genres.
Reverse Pedagogy evolved out of Canadian artist Paul
Butler's
organisation of collective
"Collage
Parties," where he, up to twenty other artists, and
the general public produce artwork over a week-long collaborative
gathering. In a similar spirit, Reverse Pedagogy at Sligo will
be packed with leisure and sports activities, socialisation,
and the "general pursuit of anything but work in a quantifiable
sense".
This project was previously produced at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada
and at the 2009 Venice Biennale. The heart of Reverse Pedagogy is semi-collaborative,
improvised projects and exhibitions that eventually open to the public for full
participation. On Culture Night, artists and public will be interacting together
creatively.
